Stradivari by Prince Matchabelli is a Oriental Spicy fragrance for women. The nose behind this fragrance is Prince Georges V. Matchabelli. Top notes are Calabrian bergamot, Coriander, Aldehydes, Cinnamon, Marjoram, Allspice and Cloves; middle notes are Frankincense, Carnation, Lavender, Jasmine, Thyme, Myrrh, Basil, Orris and Rose; base notes are Mysore Sandalwood, Patchouli, Ambergris, Benzoin, Oakmoss, Vetiver, Cedar and Musk. Stradivari is a complex spicy oriental fragrance that was named after the Prince Matchabelli Orchestra formed in 1942. This intense fragrance features a strong woody and spicy character built upon an elegant floral foundation. The composition is described as spicy, warm, and animalic, with a sophisticated dry down showcasing real oakmoss, sandalwood, ambergris, and musk. Despite being originally marketed to women, many consider it unisex in appeal. The fragrance was noted as being ahead of its time and has been compared to later classics like YSL Opium. It was promoted through radio broadcasts of the Stradivari Orchestra in the 1940s, conducted by Paul Lavalle, and featured an orchestra with eight genuine Stradivari violins.
